Brinjal Blooms – I like these more than the vegetable 🙂 There are people you love at first sight and you can’t wait to know them more and spend more time with them. Then there are others who you can’t decide about. But you wouldn’t mind meeting them once in a while. And finally, the third type, wh

This was in October and I can be so procrastinating at times. Read the entire story on the Femina website. Many thanks to Rajani Mani for this, and she has a gorgeous food blog herself! Check it out.
The Shopping Guide to Cooking andBaking in Hyderabad
Updated: 3rd Jan 2010 This is a useful list for foodies who are new to Hyderabad, like I was a year ago. Whether you are relocating from abroad or from another city in India, you may want to know where certain ingredients, equipment will be available, so you feel at home immediately. Most of the sto
In search of a good vegetarian Stroganoff – Mushroom Stroganoff
I have been glued and addicted to watching Masterchef Australia on Star World. It is the classiest reality show to be aired on Indian television, in my humble opinion, of course. Trolls, please excuse. What’s a vegetarian’s interest in watching this predominantly meat based show, you may wonder. It
Traditional cooling food – Panakam and Kosumalli for Sri Rama Navami
The more I dig into our traditional foods, I’m amazed at how intelligently and seasonally our ancestors ate. Panakam and _Cucumber Kosumalli _that are offered as Neiveidyam on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami which falls in the summer season
Four years and counting
On March 12, 2006, I took those wobbly first steps into the world of food blogging, without even knowing that there was something called ‘foodblogging’. I just thought it would be cool to have a digital diary of recipes and photos for future reference. And then tracking back comments and visitors, I realized there is a whole world of likeminded people called ‘food bloggers’ out there
Cooking from Vidhu Mittal’s Pure & Simple
This is not a book review, just want to share a great cookbook with my fellow foodies. I spotted this book at a friend’s place. A hurried browsing (which is all my toddler allows me) made me feel that there’s plenty I can cook from this book. I’m by no means a recipe follower, always making substitutions to make things simpler, healthier and easier – and cooking with what’s on hand. Vidhu’s recipes fit in all the above criteria – they are simple, they are reasonably healthy and do not ask for any exotic ingredients. She says in the preface that most of her recipes have the Uttar Pradesh influence, and I quite like that. Small tweaks like adding gram flour to oil before throwing in capsicum and potato in the Capsicum Potato curry give a whole new taste to a daily curry
Saraswat Lunch Menu from Rasachandrika
Regional Indian cooking has such variety that it’s mind-boggling. Every culture has had it’s cookbook bible that it trusts to preserve the heritage and authenticity – Meenakshi Ammal is one such great lady who put down traditional Tamil cuisine in three volumes. Such books are not only wonderful to discover in our kitchens the kind of food that is hardly ever available in restaurants, but also to give a great insight into the other cultures in our country. I can say the same about some of the food blogs 🙂 Rasachandrika, written by Ambabai Samshi is one such cooking bible for Saraswat community – and I was glad to buy it a few months ago – this showcases Chitrapur Saraswat cooking

That is not me trying to blow my own trumpet 🙂 but it’s what I’ve been busy cleaning over almost the last 3 months
The Great Indian Vegetable Biryani
There are some recipes that escape even a voracious cook – and for me Biryani has been one of them. In most friends’ house parties this is one dish that unfailingly features as the main course – a pot of vegetable biryani for the non meat eaters and a mutton biryani for the others. Besides it is com
