On vegetable and fruit juices and using them to fill nutritional gaps in our daily diet
When I was a kid, I had to eat whatever was prepared at home. There was no exemption for any vegetable. And I was lucky to like most fruits. Being forced to eat not-so-fun vegetables like pumpkin, radish, bitter gourd etc., I’d tell myself that when I grow up I wouldn’t have to eat all these vegetables. I would have the luxury to eat only the stuff that I love. Potatoes topping the list, of course.
Growing up under our parents care, breakfast is served to us, or even fed to us if we are in a rush. Mums hold up the glass of milk to our lips as we hurriedly tie up our shoelaces and rush out for school. Parents ensure that our meals are balanced, freshly made and full of nutrition. I remember how my grandfather would lug home bags of seasonal fruit from the local market all year round. He would then wash them, cut them up and ensure everyone in the family ate their share.
Now we are all grown up and taking care of our health is in our own hands. There’s no one to scold us for skipping breakfast or raise a red flag for not meeting our fruit and veg quota for the day. Life with its endless to-do-lists and challenges moves on at a hectic pace. Our body copes to whatever extent it can. But when vitamin and iron deficiencies set in, we tend to become tired and out of sorts. Our productivity suffers, and we don’t feel a 100% good.
Almost everyone I know is on some kind of diet. We don’t realise that with a calorie reduction, there is almost always a nutrient deficit, which if your body was not well stocked with vitamins and minerals in the first place, you are bound to feel the impact.
Tropicana Essentials Fruit & Veggies is a blend of vegetable and fruit juices – which is something I always prefer over plain fruit juices. If you see some of the juice recipes on my blog, they are always a blend of vegetables and fruit juices, with a flavour booster / detox ingredient like ginger thrown in.
If you end up feeling low on energy most of the time, it will worthwhile doing a check on your diet if you are getting your 5-a-day of seasonal fruits and vegetables. While salads, curries, soups etc are a good way to consume vegetables, juices are an easy way to fill some of the nutritional gaps, contributing to your 5-a-day. Portable and hygienic, easy to have on the go, easy on busy schedules, Tropicana Essentials Fruit & Veggies is 100% vegetable and fruit juice. There is no added sugar in these vegetable and fruit juices, the flavour and colour coming solely from the fruits and veg used in the blends.
This is not a replacement for a healthy consumption of fruits and vegetables in their natural form, but Tropicana Essentials Fruit & Veggies surely helps give an extra boost of Vitamin A & C (15% RDA), while providing 2 serves of fruit and veg. This juice has a blend of juices from apple, carrots and beetroot, tastes natural with the mild sweetness from the combination of fruit and veg. Give it a try, you never know, it could be exactly what’s missing from your diet.
