Hello from me to you…what I was up to in Jan and what plans for Feb etc. Grab a coffee (and a cookie) and read on.

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen (yes, Google Analytics tells me my foodblog draws a fair share of the XY chromosomes as well)!
I’ve been wanting to do this for a while. This as in, a letter from me to my readers. Of course, while I do make an attempt to connect with you in my food and recipe blog posts, there’s only so much that can be written off-topic. And that’s why I’m starting Saffron Trail Digest. Grab a coffee and a cookie!
Last month, for me, was all about getting back on track – healthy eating, staying active etc. which reflected on the blog too, with a whole lot of salads and healthy recipes coming your way. Then there was an inspired easy Mexican Vegetarian series. Mexican is by far one of my favourite cuisines. So much flavour and spunk in its recipes and ingredients – how can one not help but love Mexican food! And ever since I did the series, my friends on various social media platforms have been giving me more ideas on recipes to try, so I think this section on my blog will be a work in progress for some time to come.

The husband gifted me a FitBit at the end of last year, and while I’ve been telling myself ‘no more gadgets’, I’m nearly addicted to this one. I’ve worn it (very unfashionably so) to the Madras Music season and to weddings, even though the black Fitbit stuck out like a sore thumb with my Mustard-Gold Kanjeevaram saree 😛 But hey, the fact that I need to do a minimum of 10,000 steps a day keeps me moving. I do want to write a detailed post on this, but will probably use it for month longer before I put down my thoughts.

Jan was my birthday month and without giving out too much, let’s just say I’m approaching an important milestone next year. I have a goal for 2017 and being active, eating mindfully, and enjoying life’s moments will hopefully get me there.
Man proposes, Mr.Murphy disposes. That’s how I managed to catch a bad cold on my birthday, which was not the main problem. Problem was I had two days of shoot for my youtube channel lined up, and the team was scheduled to come from Bombay, cameraperson hired etc. and there’s no way I could back off. Two days of mad prepping and shooting, while looking and feeling like something the cat dragged in.

See that general mayhem in the pic above? Man, if anyone tells you shooting for a food youtube channel is cakewalk, they are pulling wool over your eyes. This is also a general disclaimer that you must forgive me if I am looking exceptionally BLEH in some of my forthcoming videos – it’s no fun facing the camera when your nose is threatening to run like Usain Bolt 😛 But yes, having a youtube channel is an exercise in commitment more than anything else. The upside: I shot my first series of videos for a brand! You’ll see them soon. Provided you have subscribed to my channel. (This is your cue to hit the Subscribe button) ▶️
So now, we are in Feb. And even 5 year olds (!!) these days, seem to know that Feb=Valentine’s Day. So yes, in tune with the general interwebs and foodblogging trends, I shall also be blogging some delicious recipes for two. Things like breakfast in bed, foods I love, cooking with aphrodisiacs (ahem!) etc. and I promise you I shall try not to go overboard with mush and hearts.

Lastly, but also most importantly, in March 2016, it will be #10yearsofSaffronTrail. I’m planning some interesting stuff for my readers, who have stuck around for a decade, egging my blog and me on!
If you are a brand and you want to partner with #10yearsofSaffrontrail – mail me [saffrontrail at gmail dot com] or ping me on Twitter @saffrontrail and let’s see what fun stuff we can come up with.
So signing off, and hope to see you around more often, because there’s going to be nary a dull moment on SaffronTrail.com in 2016
I was just writing this post as well. Been planning to do this from years as well and Richa’s monthly posts inspired me.
10 yrs is long. Good luck Nandita
Congratulations Nandita! Been an ardent follower of your posts and saffrontrail has been my first go-to tool for cooking. As a newbie cook I have expanded my abilities to cook and experiment thanks to you and your blog :),
