9 Holiday Gifts for the food lover
Looking for holiday gifts for someone who loves to cook or who generally loves food-things? Here’s the perfect list!
Festive season is upon us and it’s that time of the year when everyone goes crazy thinking about what to gift their loved ones. Dry fruit dabbas filled with raisins, cashews and almonds are passé and probably the most unimaginative gifts around. Chocolates are done to death. Laddoos, erm… the less said about them, the better. Unless you want to send a gift to Chhota Bheem.
“The excellence of a gift lies in its appropriateness rather than in its value.” ― Charles Dudley Warner
While different people like different things, I think I have a fair idea on what’s a good gift for a food-lover, being one myself 🙂 My personal choice is a combination of vintage meets quirky meets utility meets VFM. Most of my finds are available on Amazon, for everyone’s convenience of course. This post is not sponsored by any stores / brands, just a collection of things I’ve found beautiful and useful.
Gorgeous Cake Stand and server
Source: Amazon.com
This scalloped vintage-looking cake stand is the perfect way to display your homebaked cake or even mini-cupcakes, muffins or cake slices. It comes with a matching server. (INR 1450)

Utilitarian- Chic Mason Jars
If there’s one thing in my kitchen that I guard fiercely from breakage, it’s my set of 12 mason jars in which I store spices, lentils etc. It’s the classiest kitchen storage ever. It’s also turning very fashionable to serve drinks in these bottles with a straw tucked in.
Whether it’s for storing preserves, pickles or anything else you fancy, these are a much welcome addition to any kitchen. A perfect gift for a kitchen proud person, at INR1400 for a set of six 780 ml bottles, it’s pretty reasonable too!

Luxury Tea Hampers
For the tea connoisseurs who wont take a sip of a tea whose origins / flush / estate they don’t have knowledge of, you can wow/ woo them with specialty tea hampers. I’ve personally tried most of the Sublime House of Tea brand teas and I must say I love all of them. Be it Darjeeling or Seventh Heaven, these are relaxing and make a perfect companion for me-time. You’ll find many other gourmet tea options online for gifting purposes.
Oil Mister for the healthy cook
If you are looking for a gift for a health food freak, take a look at this oil dispenser. You can fill in any oil of your choice and spray on the pan before cooking / baking for greasing the pan with minimal oil.
Whiskey Decanter
Have a friend who loves her/his scotch? This elegant looking decanter is just what you are looking for. This decanter with a minimalistic design and a capacity of 700ml (INR 990) is sure to make that expensive single malt look even better.
Teakwood Chopping board
I’m yet to come across someone who loves to cook and doesn’t love a good wooden chopping board. This one is made of teak wood and you cant help fall in love with the patterns of the grain. With a size of 16″ x 12″ it provides a generous chopping area. At just INR 899, I’d say it is a steal. Or check out this quirky one here, that would make an excellent cheese serving board.

Breakfast in Bed
This elegant white breakfast tray is the perfect way to start a lazy morning. It’s a long lasting gift and the receiver will remember you fondly each time he/she has their morning tea and newspaper served on this tray.
That it’s someone else’s responsibility to fill up that tray each morning, is a concern, but that shouldn’t worry you. This is one gift that will be truly appreciated. At INR 1458 it is real VFM.

Butterfly Tablecloth
If there’s one store I can go completely bonkers in, it’s Chumbak. This store has started stocking the most vibrant and beautifully designed products for kitchen and dining, and it’s almost impossible to come away without buying yet another mug or storage jar, that is just the 19475th addition to the kitchen shelf. This brilliantly printed butterfly tablecloth, will get your family back to eating meals on the dining table (currently on a 50% discount too) 🙂
